MUTOPIA’s proposal for synergetic development of Ringkøbing-Skjern wins appraisal

Ringkøbing-Skjern mayor Iver Enevoldsen praises MUTOPIA’s proposal for the development of Ringkøbing-Skjern as an energy-producing multifunctional region, developed as part of DK2050, a national scenario project on the transformation of Denmark towards becoming a carbon-free society in 2050 headed by MUTOPIA.

The proposal for the development of Ringkøbing-Skjern, Denmark’s largest municipality, is based upon a synergy between nature, tourism and production of green energy.

By combining the most important asset of the region – its nature – with a development based on the ‘production of experiences’, Ringkøbing-Skjern can achieve a 160% production of green energy, thereby consolidating its position on the renewable energy market.

Mayor Iver Enevoldsen is enthusiastic about ‘the exciting and promising perspectives for a not so distant future’, where sea farms provide breeding areas for seaweed as a source for biogas, while in the same time offering unique opportunities for living in scenic surroundings.

The proposal for the synergetic development of Ringkøbing-Skjern based upon a double usage of nature as cultural and energy- producing asset is exemplary for a sustainable development which eschews large scale urbanization as a source of growth.
