Green Footprints
Concentrating the development of Koivusaari into ‘urbanized islands’ will contribute to the archipelago environment while in the same time protecting it, and will forward a new image for urban life that rediscovers nature: a sustainable urban development shaped as Green Footprints.
Green Footprints is a strategy for dense building massing that encourages passive solar heating, shelters from wind and cold when external weather conditions are out of range for pedestrian comfort, and enables regulations for achieving large car free areas, thereby reducing traffic pollution and providing a paradise for bicycles and pedestrians.
In response to the site context, each urbanized island features a unique urban and residential ‘ideal’: The Green Canyon Dwellings, The Rock Blocks and The Wooden Village.
