Culture Yard

The conversion of the former Shipyard in Helsingør harbour into a new Culture Yard requires the re-invention of the Shipyard as an urban factory accessible to public life and visible – both in a local and global perspective – as a site for unfolding cultural and creative patterns of consumption characteristic for the new leisure economy.

Accessibility and visibility are key concepts materialized as three public staircases providing access to the three programmatic clusters of the Culture Yard, and the Ship Deck, which unites the three clusters under a common roof level: a public living room offering magnificent views over the city, the Kronborg castle and the sea.
