MUTOPIA presents ‘The Scalable City’ at the People’s Meeting ‘Folkemødet’ 2015

By invitation of The Regional Municipality of Bornholm and Realdania, MUTOPIA will contribute to this year’s People’s Meeting ‘Folkemødet’ with ‘The Scalable City’, a masterplan for ‘Folkemødet’, Denmark’s political festival and Allinge, the hosting city.

The masterplan will strengthen Allinges unique identity as ‘democratic city’, and provide a strategic development tool to create synergy between the city and the festival, while addressing the logistical and urban challenges that arise when a small urban community of 1.550 inhabitants is transformed into a 100.000 people large festival city.

Besides the main contribution ‘The Scalable City’, MUTOPIA will be involved in additional programs and events at various locations, including a number of workshops with local stakeholders. Serban Cornea will participate in ‘The Future Denmark – Balance between city and countryside?, a debate on urbanization tendencies in Denmark, together with Ellen Højgaard, director of The Danish Town Planning Institute, Claus Bjørn Billehøj, director for The Capital Region of Denmark and Søren Møller Christensen, partner, carlberg/christensen.

Last year, MUTOPIA participated at ‘Folkemødet’ with a presentation of DK2050, a project headed by MUTOPIA and aimed at defining national and regional urban strategies that support the green transformation towards achieving a carbon-free Danish society in 2050.

Earlier this year, MUTOPIA has been shortlisted as one of three teams to masterplan Allinge City and ‘Folkemødet’. The team consists of MUTOPIA together with Erik Brandt Dam Arkitekter, Center for Regional- og Turismeforskning (Centre for Regional & Tourism Research) and Lars Rasmussen, Danmarks Sportsfiskeriforbund (Denmark’s Sport Fishing Association).

The parallel assignment ‘The Scalable City’ will be presented between the 11th and the 14th of June at The Regional Municipality of Bornholm’s j9 venue, Allinge, Bornholm.

The debate ‘The Future Denmark – Balance between city and countryside?’, organized by Danish Architecture Center DAC, will take place Saturday the 13th of June between 13:00 – 14:00, at Kampeløkken Havn, “Dansk Arkitektur Center, E13″, Allinge, Bornholm.
