X-HOUSE sets new standards for co-creative countryside development

MUTOPIA’s X-HOUSE project is praised in Funen newspaper Fyens Stiftstidende for setting new standards for the development of the Danish countryside, based on co-creativity and private-public partnerships.

Chairman of The Danish Village Association Carsten Abild and Deputy Chairman of the Independent Institution X-HUSET Jørgen Brink praise MUTOPIA’s project for taking the evolutionary steps of transforming the typical community centre into a vibrant LivingRoom for the entire village of Vester Hæsinge.

The well-known Walt Disney quote ‘if you can dream it, you can do it’ is appropriate for describing the huge motivation of the local community for engaging actively in the transformation of the shutdown school, a process which started back in 2011 and culminated earlier this month with the finalization of the project funding.

The funding is granted by Lokale og Anlægsfonden LOA (The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities) and Realdania, a Danish philanthropic organization that supports change in the built environment, together with Ken Fonden, The Municipality of Faaborg-Midtfyn, and financial contributions from the local community.

The X-HOUSE will unite a local community centre with sports clubs, communal welfare provision and other health related functions into one synergistic whole, to create a strong platform for promoting social innovation and increase the attractiveness of the village as a settlement place for newcomers.

Project completion is scheduled in 2016.
