Lindbjergskolen breaks ground

Last week, a groundbreaking ceremony led by Mayor Lars Krarup marked the construction start of Lindbjergskolen, a 11.500m2 large public school in Herning, Western Denmark.

Lindbjergskolen will provide a focal point of public life across age for the entire Hammerum-Gjellerup area by uniting different activities within a new sports&culture mini-town of different volumes corresponding to a diversity of programmatic needs including school, sports facilities and a library, and immersed into a landscape specifically designed to support play, learning and movement, both inside and outside.

The students from Hammerum School and Gjellerup School, soon to become one, gathered several things typical of our time into a ‘time capsule’, which has been buried at the building site to symbolize a strong common foundation for the future joint school.

The project with a 200 M DKK construction budget is the winning entry of an architectural competition won by a team consisting of KPC, Årstiderne Arkitekter, MUTOPIA, Autens and Sweco.

Lindbjergskolen will welcome 1.000 pupils and 100 staff members upon completion in 2020.
