Lokale og Anlægsfonden LOA (The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities) announced the selection of MUTOPIA as one of the three finalists to proceed to the final stage of the competition for the adaptive re-use of shutdown Danish schools. During the last competition stage, MUTOPIA’s X-House proposal will be further developed to meet LOA’s specific project requirements for achieving financial support to enable construction.

MUTOPIA will collaborate with Colliers International Danmark, anthropologist&artist Mikael Eriksen and stakeholders from the local community for the final project phase.

MUTOPIA presents the X-House

Thursday, October 10th, 2013

Finalizing the second round of the competition for the adaptive re-use of shutdown schools, the team lead by MUTOPIA presented for the LOA jury the X-House, a proposal for the transformation of the Vester Hæsinge School into a new community center.

The new X-House responds to the motivation of the local community to transform the shutdown Vester Hæsinge School into a Nature&Health community center, in order to create social value by uniting the dynamic surrounding nature with an active effort towards promoting health, cultural and social related activities.

MUTOPIA’s proposal is a strategic intervention aiming at providing the existing x-shaped building mass of the Vester Hæsinge School with a new active center: a flexible space which reinforces the programmatic diversity of each arm of the x, while in the same time providing a new identity for the new X-House as a ‘social greenhouse’.

Out of the transformation proposals of the 5 teams selected for the second round of the competition, 3 will be shortlisted by LOA mid-November for further project development leading to construction with the financial support of LOA (Lokale og Anlægsfonden).
