Financial support for SPARK

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

MUTOPIA designed SPARK project receives financial support from The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities (LOA).

SPARK will contribute to transforming the 40.000 m2 football training area of Odense Comrades’ Sportsclub (OKS) into a multifunctional sports park welcoming a wide range of users, interests and ages.

SPARK combines the two Danish traditions for football and allotment gardens into a number of gabled roof pavilions which root the project within the urban context of allotments and sheds, while in the same time providing informal space for a diversity of sports and physical activities to improve physical and football skills.

The ‘sports sheds’ are organized in three ‘sports villages’ carefully distributed throughout the area to create alternatively opened and more intimate spaces to support individual as well as group training.

The playful, turned and tumbled ‘sports sheds’ are developed in close collaboration with the project stakeholders and LOA to enable a more versatile and intensive usage of the area.,1-mio-kr-til-fodbold-og-bypark-i-odense

Monday, August 13th, 2012

The Municipality of Kalundborg has announced a public hearing on MUTOPIA’s SPIRAL Activity House proposal to discuss the future usage of The Spiral’s surrounding areas for park and recreational purposes.

MUTOPIA’s SPIRAL House proposal, consisting of four different sized sport fields spiraling upwards on four story-high steps, provides multiple possibilities for movement, interaction and scenic overview inside as well as outside.

The wooden roof of The SPIRAL is twisted to create an accessible landscape which acts as a 5th sports field, while also providing tribune seats to watch the various surrounding activities, which include a number of different areas for recreation and sports, as well as an energy park.

The hearing will provide input for the further development of the local plan for the area.–Bevaegelseshus-naermer-sig

SPARK sparked off

Monday, June 18th, 2012

Project stakeholders spark off the next development level of MUTOPIA’s concept for a sports park in central Odense dubbed ‘Spark’.

The park will feature a double layered functionality, comprising sports, football, exercise and play, while also staging an informal open social space for users of different age and interest.

The multifunctional quality is secured by a number of gable house shaped pavilions which root the project within the surrounding context of allotment gardens, strengthen the sense of community, and provide a unique identity.

The all-inclusive process of involving end users, experts and stakeholders provides invaluable feedback for the further design process through a unique combination of integrated physical and virtual means of involvement ranging from workshops to internet-based dialogue facilitated by U_Build, MUTOPIA’s web based dialogue tool.

Spark is scheduled to open May 2013.

Client counts OKS (Odense Comrades’ Sportsclub), Odense Municipality and Lokale- og Anlægsfonden (The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities).
